Computer Coding School Begins in Peachtree Corners in 2019

Post Date:10/04/2018 11:54 AM

Today nearly every aspect of our lives is touched by technology; from our smartphones and the automobiles we drive, to the apps we use for banking and navigating our way through a new city.

This has resulted in an expanding demand for computer coding skills across a broad range of careers. Locally, businesses are seeking avenues to upgrade employees’ skills, while individuals are exploring a career change and considering computer coding as an option.

To accommodate the growing need for coding skills, the city of Peachtree Corners is partnering with Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE) to provide 24-week coding boot camps at Prototype Prime, the startup incubator located in Technology Park. Classes begin January 28, 2019.

The classes are offered through GTPE, an academic division of Georgia Tech. Students will learn specialized skills through a fast-paced, immersive curriculum and learn skills to become proficient in front-end and back-end technologies.

“Coding skills are in high demand,” said Councilmember Jeanne Aulbach, (Post 4). “These skills are not just for programmers but reach a broad spectrum including data analysts, engineers, scientists, artists and designers.”

Students will receive hands-on training to master the hard and soft skills needed for web development, data science and analytics, and will finish the course with a wide set of technical skills and a portfolio of projects.

“Computer programming is a growing industry,” said Councilmember Lorri Christopher, (Post 5). “This is a tremendous opportunity right here in Peachtree Corners to learn from a highly regarded institution.”

Nelson Baker, dean of GTPE added: “As the lifelong learning arm of the Georgia Institute of Technology, GTPE has a long history of delivering professional education to meet the workforce development needs of employees and the career advancement needs of employees. Annually, we serve approximately 36,000 learners worldwide representing more than 2,600 companies.”
