What are Teleoperated E-Scooters
The city’s commitment in advancing technology beyond traditional transportation to improve mobility continues. Its latest venture is the launch of the world’s first teleoperated e-scooters.
The city and Curiosity Lab, its smart-city innovation center, has teamed with two California-based technology companies, Tortoise and Go X to offer e-scooters that have the ability to reposition themselves back to a safe parking spot – and respond to a call (using Go X app) to be delivered right to a customer’s door. The e-scooters are repositioned by Tortoise’s remote teleoperators.
The e-scooters currently operate in Technology Park and are available for use by the general public. E-scooter riders may operate the scooters on the AV track that runs along Technology Parkway and connecting streets.
The initial pilot will run for six months and marks the first time ever that teleoperated e-scooters have been deployed on public streets.
E-scooters will be available Monday through Friday 7 AM to 9 PM beginning the first week of June. They will not be available on inclement weather days or on the following holidays:
|Independence Day||July 4|
|Labor Day||September 7|
|Thanksgiving||November 26 and 27|
E-scooters must be driven on the street and cannot be ridden on sidewalks.
