[ARCHIVED] PEACHTREE CORNERS COUNCILMEMBER ERIC CHRIST AND RESIDENTS CUT THE RIBBON ON THE GUNNIN ROAD SIDEWALK

Recently, 30 residents of the River Valley Estates and Peachtree Plantations West neighborhoods joined Councilmember Eric Christ, who represents District 2 of the City of Peachtree Corners, to celebrate the completion of the Gunnin Road sidewalk project.

This project included over 4000' of new sidewalk along the west side of Gunnin Road from Spalding Drive to Wilbanks Drive, new curb and gutter, new stormwater infrastructure, and landscaping. The $735,000 cost was funded through a combination of SPLOST funds and GDOT Local Maintenance & Improvement Grants.

Cutting the ribbon was Janie van Reenen, a long-time resident on Gunnin Road, who first contacted Councilmember Christ about how to improve pedestrian safety on this busy road which was built in the 1970s without a sidewalk. Janie, along with neighbor Debbie Strickland Anderson, led the effort to get their community to support this project while Councilmember Christ worked to get it prioritized and funded.

"This sidewalk is a great addition to the City sidewalk network," said Councilmember Christ, "and will significantly improve safety for pedestrians and young bicyclists along this road." " I particularly want to thank the homeowners on the west side of Gunnin Road who let their front yards and driveways be redesigned to accommodate the sidewalk," he added.
