Lion Heart Award
The Lion Heart Award embodies the essence of the decathlon, capturing the determination, resilience, courage, and strength required to face challenges with fearlessness and confidence, regardless of one's abilities.
Rachel Moor
Eight years ago, Rachel developed a rare condition shortly after her daughter was born, which prevented her from walking - for over three years. She relied on a wheelchair or crutches during this time. Finally, with the guidance of a specialist and two hard years - Rachel learned to walk again! Unfortunately after this great accomplishment she was involved in a severe car accident that damaged both of her shoulders, requiring surgical reconstruction on one. Following two years of rehabilitation, she regained full use of her shoulders this past November. For Rachel, even starting a lawn mower was an achievement and a celebration but her greatest joy was being able to play with her daughter!
Despite seven years of physical disability, Rachel signed up for the decathlon and put in the effort. Before the race, she had never completed all the obstacles, but that didn't deter her. During the race, she not only completed the multi-rig for the first time but also conquered the Rope Traverse and nearly finished the Tarzan obstacle, missing only two rungs before losing her grip.
Craig Marker
Craig was the 2024 Decathlon winner of the 50+ category. He’s “on the board” as we say! Craig is one of the OG’s of the Decathlon and we have seen him improve year after year, culminating in his victory last year. Craig's dedication was evident as he ran to and from very early decathlon workouts every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. His hard work paid off, and he began competing in Hyrox races across the country, nearly qualifying for the Hyrox World Championships. However, in November Craig faced a life-threatening medical condition that severely impacted his ability to see or walk.
Over the past nine months, Craig fought tirelessly to regain his ability to walk, run, and rebuild his strength and balance. His determination to compete in the decathlon was truly inspiring. Craig attempted each station, and his perseverance was a source of inspiration to all.
