DO I NEED A PERMIT TO INSTALL A FENCE?
A permit is not needed to install a fence unless it requires footers (typical with brick or stone walls); however, all fences must comply with the regulations referenced in the zoning ordinance. Please email a site plan, prior to installation of the fence, to Kylie Thomas kthomas@peachtreecornersga.gov to ensure compliance.
HOW TALL CAN MY FENCE BE?
The height of your fence will depend on whether you have a corner lot or not. The height of the fence is measured from the finished grade of the subject property.
FENCE HEIGHT IN RESIDENTIAL ZONING DISTRICTS |
Non-Corner Lot |
Front yard | 4 feet maximum |
Rear yard | 8 feet maximum |
Side yard | 8 feet maximum |
Corner Lot |
Front yard | 4 feet maximum |
Rear yard | 8 feet maximum |
Interior Side | 8 feet maximum |
Corner Side | -Located in line with the home: 6 ft. -Located between the home and the right‐of‐way: 4 ft. |
WHERE CAN MY FENCE BE LOCATED?
We encourage property owners to put the fence just inside their property lines to avoid having to access another person’s property to install or maintain the fence. Fences cannot be placed in the public right‐of‐way.
WHAT MATERIALS ARE PERMITTED FOR MY FENCE?
Brick, stone, wood, stucco, split rail, wrought iron, or aluminum that looks like wrought iron; vinyl coated chain link is permitted in the side or rear yard only. Uncoated chain link, woven wire, hog wire, barbed wire, exposed concrete block, tires, junk, or other discarded materials are not permitted.
WHAT SIDE OF THE FENCE SHOULD BE FACING OUT?
The finished side of the fence should face out; the unfinished side should face inwards, toward your property.
Note: See Article VII, Sec. 700 for a complete list of wall and fence regulations.
