Running For Office

The City of Peachtree Corners will conduct a general election on Tuesday November 7, 2023 for the purpose of electing a (1) Mayor and three (3) members of the City Council. The City Council posts to be voted on are Post 1, Post 3 and Post 5.

The Mayor and Council serve four-year staggered terms. The purpose of this provision is to ensure that at no time is the Council composed of a full panel of freshmen members. There are presently no term limits for these positions. To qualify for the position of Mayor or Councilmember you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a one (1) year City of Peachtree Corners resident as of the first Tuesday in November of the year for which you are qualifying.
  • Must be a registered voter.
  • Must state which seat/person for which you are qualifying.
  • Must pay a qualifying fee of $240 (3% of Council pay) or, if running for the Mayoral seat, $270 (3% of Mayor’s pay).

All candidates running for office should be familiar with the Georgia Ethics in Government Act. Interested candidates should also familiarize themselves with City operations, including but not limited to review of the Peachtree Corners City Charter, City Codes/Ordinances, the Constitution of the State of Georgia, and guidelines set forth by the Georgia Government Transparency Campaign Finance Commission.

Once Elected

Work sessions are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month and council meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month. Please check dates on the City Calendar. Elected officials take office at the first organizational meeting in January following the election. Once elected, the Mayor and all members of Council must continue to reside in the City of Peachtree Corners during their periods of service and remain registered voters. Additionally, they may not hold any other city office or city employment during any portion of the term for which they are elected.


Compensation for elected officials is as follows: Mayor receives $9,000 per year, and City Council members receive $8,000 per year. Attendance is expected at these meetings as well as during annual Strategic Planning Sessions, some required conferences and seminars, and budget review sessions. Elected officials are also expected to participate in county or community involvement programs, leadership programs, and encouraged to attend various city functions and events.

Qualifying Fee

The qualifying fee for the office of Mayor is $270 (two hundred seventy dollars), which is 3% of the total gross Mayoral salary of the preceding year (Georgia Election Code 21-2-131). The qualifying fee for the City Council is $240 (two hundred forty dollars), which is 3% of the total gross councilmember salary of the preceding year (Georgia Election Code 21-2-131).

Qualifying Dates

The qualifying dates will be Monday, August 21, 2023 through Wednesday, August 23, 2023. The hours of qualifying will be from 9:00am to 12:00 noon, and 1:00pm to 4:00pm and shall be conducted in the Office of the City Clerk, 310 Technology Parkway, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092.


Please note that candidates for public office are required to file forms with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (GGTCFC) (formerly known as the State Ethics Commission). On its website you will find candidate forms and reporting responsibilities. (Please note that there is paperwork due prior to qualifying.) All paperwork will be filed with the City Clerk. Voter Registration Lists are only obtainable from the Secretary of State’s office. Please note that the City's version of the voter list cannot be copied since it contains confidential information per OCGA 21-2-225.
